Basic Philosophy

To protect its existing and newly developed products, NGK SPARK PLUG CO., LTD. takes steps to actively acquire intellectual property rights and make effective use of them. We investigate the intellectual property rights of third parties in all production processes, from early stages of development to mass production, to avoid the risk of infringing the intellectual property rights of third parties or violating contracts, laws or regulations. We also verify the appropriateness of the intellectual property-related provisions in various contracts. In addition, we are educating employees on the importance of intellectual property. In the future, we will strengthen the management of intellectual property across the Group, as the basis for our continued evolution as a “Monozukuri Company.”

Promoting Measures to Stamp Out Counterfeit Goods

As for NGK SPARK PLUG CO., LTD.’s measures against counterfeit goods, to date various group companies, primarily in China and the Middle East, and law firms have been proceeding with activities through tie-ups, and we have also been strengthening activities in the ASEAN and India, where economic growth continues. The counterfeit goods that threaten the safety of customers exhibit the trend toward further trickiness and smaller lot through the Internet trading. We have been continuously engaging in activities for uncovering and stamping out the counterfeit goods in close cooperation with the police, the customs, and relevant administrative agencies.

The Intellectual Property Department believes that we should take the resolute attitude against manufacturing and sales of counterfeit goods modeled after our products not only for protecting interests of our customers who purchase our products with trust in our brands but also removing any possible risk of funding anti-social organizations. We are striving for diversification of our intellectual property rights for effective exercise onward, aiming at safety and development of the local society.
