Basic Policy on Industrial Safety and Health

We strive for occupational safety and health as the starting point of business activities on the basis of respect for human life and dignity.

Action Guidelines

  • Observe the laws and regulation, and voluntary standards on industrial safety and health.
  • Prevent occupational injury and decrease risks by continuously improving on the management system and performance of industrial safely and health.
  • Conduct efforts to increase physical and mental health and prevent health disabilities of employees.
  • Disseminate this policy to all employees, promote awareness by education and enlightenment, and expand the industrial safety and health activities by involving all employees.

Basic Philosophy

Occupational safety and health are the most familiar theme for employees in their daily duties. It is the most important theme for enterprises as well in their efforts to provide a working environment in which employees are encouraged to do their best in operations. We are well aware that offering a secure and safe workplace is our important corporate responsibility.
To this end, we established our occupational safety and health management system (OSHMS) in 2006, aiming to realize "zero injuries" and secure safety at all workplaces. We will continue strengthening our safety and health management activities at a company-wide level, aiming to establish a corporate culture of "safety first."

OSHMS

With the aim of eliminating on-the-job injuries and creating a comfortable, safe work environment, we have established and implemented an in-house occupational safety and health management system OSHMS (Occupational Safety and Health Management System) while introducing OHSAS or an entire system such as manual and standard, and JISHA*1 for actual application and activities. We are accredited as complying with JISHA OSHMS Standards.
Each plant and office set safety goals and safety plans in accordance with our OSHMS guidelines, aiming to conduct OSHM activities based on a "total involvement" principle. To attain a step-by-step improvement of our safety status, these progress and results of such OSHM efforts are verified by our internal safety and health auditors as well as the plant safety and health committee and the central safety and health committee.

*1 JISHA: JISHA system is a standard examined by Japan Industrial Safety and Health Association (JISHA), and organizations accredited by JISHA, incorporating items as the incidence typically practiced in Japanese workplace, for example, KY activities, Hiyari-Hatto (near-miss) activities, and 4S activities.

1. Elimination of Work-related injuries

Daily safety management practice
5-5 observation* is implemented.
To strengthen the daily management of the workplace, the management supervisor observes the workplace in the morning and afternoon every day for 5 minutes, improves the working environment, and promotes more communication with workers which create an atmosphere with openness and trust in the workplace. 5-5 observation is implemented.

*”5-5 observation” is the activity which management supervisors at work do fixed point observations both in the morning and the afternoon for five minutes every day.

4. Enhancement of Education and Enlightenment

*1: “On-the-spot risk prediction” refers to the activity performed in our company for preventing accidents caused by people by confirming hazardous spot and procedures prior to work that is done for the first time or has not been performed for a long time.
*2: “Po・Ke・Te・Na・Shi” (Pocket-Phone-Handrail-Shortcut-Pointing”) is a general term indicating precautions to protect workers from being involved in an accident during walking on the workplace, for example, “Do not walk with hands in Pockets.”, “Do not use the cell Phone during walking.”, “Make sure to hold the Handrail while ascending or descending stairs.”, “Avoid oblique crossing (Shortcut)”, and “Never fail to conduct Pointing and calling at the point specified for conducting such practice.
