NGK SPARK PLUG CO., LTD. currently makes products for a variety of fields, where high reliability and durability are required, by combining dissimilar materials with ceramics, our core technology. We are conducting further research into these core technologies, and are attempting technological development and product development in the new fields of next-generation vehicles, environment and energy field and medical field.

Next-Generation Vehicles: Hydrogen Leak Detection Sensors

Although fuel cell vehicles (FCV) run on hydrogen and emit no CO2, there have been safety issues regarding the leakage of hydrogen.
We have made full use of our technical advantage in sensor development, and have succeeded in developing a hydrogen leak sensor for installing on FCVs that is capable of detecting even the slightest amount of hydrogen.

Environment and Energy field: Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC)

Fuel cells generate electricity and heat as a result of an electrochemical reaction.
As a major business theme, NGK SPARK PLUG CO., LTD. strives to contribute to the building of the hydrogen fuel society expected to arrive in the future. As part of its response to future needs, it is promoting the development of an SOFC stack for generating electrical power.

Environment and Energy field: Lead-free Piezoelectric Ceramics

Piezoelectric ceramics that produce voltage when external force is applied are used extensively in home appliances that we are so familiar with.
However, piezoelectric ceramics contain lead which is feared may adversely influence the environment and our health.
Extensive research that we have conducted has resulted in development of lead-free piezoelectric ceramics having properties equivalent to those of lead.
From here on, we will be devoting ourselves to applying the results of our research in practical applications.
